Being a nerdy knitter – crashing a knitting festival

Fanø knitting festival is something to look forward to. The festival happens every second year and it is definitely something to travel for – if one is into knitting. The setting is a love Danish island – with great nature and cozy small villages. People are very friendly and it is very inspirational to meet and see so many talented knitters.

I did not attend any courses as I was busy hanging out with lovely friends, talking to other knitters, looking for inspirational things to spend my money on (bought square double pointed knitting needs – they are great) and taking long walks. There were a lot of really nice courses scheduled and next time the festival is to be (2011) – I will be sure to attend.

Courses and accommodation arranged by the festival is great value. The only trouble is that all courses 2009 were in Danish…..The traveling is really easy as one can fly, take a ferry or take the train directly to Esbjerg. From Esbjerg a nice little boat will take you to Fanø….and off you go with the bus or car preferably driving on the beach

Knitchicks Guide to Sweaters by Pauline Wall and Marcelle Karp – I am sure it will inspire me to a new sweater. Not that I need a new sweater…….. .

I know that one of the book’s authors has a lot to offer the knitting world. HURRAH for Pauline.

Flying to New York can take a looooooong time – especially if one is a bit jetlagged… to mend this – a nice sock project can come in handy.

Purl in New York – Fascinating Shop

Visiting New York was fantastic.

On the agenda was of course seeing all the sights, eating some nice food and as a knitter one that was non-negotiable – visiting Purl. I can only recommend visiting this shop.

The yarn and knitting accessories in stock was a true treasure, the atmosphere was friendly and the staff was very helpful – even though not all the knitting advice I received was the best. I would not hesitate to visit Purl again when I come back to New York.

I have recently been to San Francisco – California. The nature around San Francisco was fantastic and San Francisco was a lovely city.

Apart from nice views, cable cars and nice food San Francisco also offers the opportunity to explore the city and its many nice areas through yarn shops. There are several nice shops in San Francisco, but I would recommend Urban knitting studio, Artfibers, Noe Knit and ImagiKnit. They will not only tempt you with nice yarn, book and accessories, but also show you some nice part of the city.

Knitting with pearls in Greenland

In Greenland they have long been recognised for their beautiful wristlet (a tajarutit in Greenlandic). Pearls and yarn are knitted in order for a lovely pattern to emerge.

A book by Lise Stender presenting the technique has just been published. It is published in four languages English, French, Danish and Greenlandic and can be required in The Greenlandic House in Copenhagen.

Friends with a passion for knitting

Knitting is nice in solitude, but even nicer with friends. The only “drawback” is that more ideas are developed – as if I do not have plenty of half done projects.

Furthermore it suddenly becomes natural to knit in nice cafes (Royal Copenhagen), hours can be spend in nice knitting shops (Betty, Sommerfuglen, Uldstedet) and knitting in public is the common thing to do.
